Drive to the village of Tha Ngon, which is just around 25km north of the capital. From this tranquil spot, you board a floating restautant which, once un-tethered, drifts with the flow of the river. You travel upriver under power for around 40 minutes, first relaxing with drinks before lunch is served. Then the engine is then cut and you simply drift back with the flow of the river, allowing you to enjoy the scenery in perfect tranquility.
On the drive back to Vientiane, stop at Dok Makai market for a chance to walk among the stalls and vendors in this typically Lao market where you can sample………insects – a local delicacy!
Once back in Vientiane, visit ‘Parad’Ice’ for truly gorgeous ice cream, made with local fruits to create some unique flavours.
