Prepare yourself for a rather intrepid overland journey from Laos through the remote but beautiful mountainous areas into Northern Vietnam via one of the least visited provincial capitals in Laos- Sam Neua.
Begin the adventure by flying into Luang Prabang where it is easy to lose yourself in the city that many rate as the most atmospheric in South East Asia. After some exploration its time to get on the Mekong River as you take a leisurely cruise to Nong Khiaw for a relaxing stay in charming accommodation on the banks of the Mekong. After some easy cycling around the local villages you will then take a road journey to the rarely visited Sam Neua, passing through some stunning scenery on the way. Your time in Northern Laos will bring you into contact with remote hill tribe villages and territory tragically affected by the French and American wars.
From Laos you will cross the border into Northern Vietnam with your first stop being the outrageously picturesque village of Mai Chau, surrounded by rice paddy fields and White Thai villagers resplendent in colorful attire. After Mai Chau you will be driven to the bustling capital, Hanoi where you will have time to take in the major sights and adjust to the faster paced city life. What better way to end the trip by taking an overnight cruise around the Unesco World Heritage listed Halong Bay. Spend one more night in Hanoi before flying back to the UK.
