The Apsara Rive Droite is a blissfully relaxed 9 room property on ‘the other side’ of the Luang Prabang’s Nam Khan River. Because of its location slightly removed from the historic town the hotel has the air of a quiet retreat, but with all the touches of a exclusive and luxury resort; a fabulous pool, private verandas or terraces for each room and a stylish attention to detail. The beds are quite amazingly sumptuous, meaning that at the Rive Droite you are likely enjoy the best nights’ sleep of your travels!
There are a variety of fun ways in which to come and go between the hotel and the town centre. It’s really not far at all. You can either catch the hotel’s own small boat which operates a constant ‘crossing on demand’ service taking less than a minute, walk across a narrow bamboo bridge a few meters upstream, cycle over an old railway bridge with a path two planks wide, or take a taxi that loops round to the new concrete and steel bridge which takes 15 minutes. (note that the ferry and bridge are often shut in the wet season and the small boat crossing requires that you walk up/down some reasonably steep steps.)
There is a small restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and ‘The Apsara’, its sister property just across the river, offers more formal dining – just ask at reception and they would be delighted to make a reservation for you. More than a hotel, The Apsara Rive Droite is a gorgeous sanctuary, wonderfully removed from the bustle of the town. It provides the perfect base for a stay in Luang Prabang, offering it’s heady mix of tranquility, comfort and style.
