Rustic Chantha House is located in the tiny village of Ban Konglor – the gateway to the Kong Lor caves. It can most generously be described as a ‘homely guesthouse’ with only 16 sparsely decorated bedrooms, each of which will invariably be spotless but basic.
Two of these small rooms have air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms with reliable hot water, although they are short on any luxury amenities beyond this. The main draw for Chantha House is the upstairs communal terrace, offering up magnificent views over the surrounding paddy fields.
Only a short walk away there are several other options for dining in the evening, of which the pick of the bunch is called ‘Kounmee’. The hotel can rustle up food themselves in the downstairs dining room / TV room / communal space. Service comes with nervous but friendly smiles from the girls behind the reception desk.
