Where you stay when visiting the famous ruins of Wat Phou has previously been problematic, with limited choices available in either Pakse & Champasak – and what there was not being wholly convenient for the ruins. But this has changed, as there are some better options in the towns now and, more importantly, La Folie has rescued the day by offering first class accommodation in a truly stunning and convenient riverside spot.

Set in a lush landscaped and exotic gardens, the lodge is on Dong Daeng, an island in the Mekong River well known for its beauty and unspoilt charm. The lodge is on a secluded river beach, facing in the direction of the historic ruined Khmer temples of Wat Phou. It has been cleverly designed to provide magnificent views of the Mekong from everywhere in the resort – whether it be the rooms, restaurant, bar or swimming pool.

The 24 large, comfortable bedrooms are housed in 12 bungalows. They are luxuriously decorated and exquisitely furnished with local materials, each with its own balcony featuring the afore mentioned views – superb sunsets and river life.

The lodge is under 25 miles from Pakse Airport and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wat Phou is just a 20-minute boat ride away.
