Excellent service, great food, a lovely pool and modern rooms – a good, value-for-money base from which to explore the region.

The River Resort is on the western bank of the Mekong, just a very short distance from Champasak Town (five minutes drive). The sun rises behind a string of small islands in front of resort, where an inviting infinity pool overlooks the river. The fresh and airy contemporary style blends in well with the natural surroundings, thanks in part to the surrounding rice paddies which feed both the restaurant and the staff. Western and Asian dishes are equally appealing, including a surprising vegetable sorbet!

There are ten buildings in total, each containing one upstairs and one downstairs room. The 14 ‘riverside’ rooms obviously have the best views from their balconies. The interiors are made cool thanks to tiled floors and within you find TVs, minibars and effective AC units. Bathrooms feature two sinks and both inside and outside showers.

Affordable spa treatments are available and a small shop exhibits traditional textiles, with weaving demonstrations on a traditional loom. Other great options for your free time include taking out the resort kayak or bicycles to explore, or sunset drinks on the small island opposite.
